What Is ImmiAccount?
ImmiAccount is the Australian Department of Home Affairs' secure online portal for managing immigration and visa-related matters. Most Australian visa applications are now lodged online through ImmiAccount, replacing the older paper-based processes and separate online systems.

ImmiAccount allows applicants and registered migration agents to:

Choosing the Right Visa
Australia has a complex visa framework with hundreds of visa subclasses across multiple streams. Before starting an application, it's essential to identify the correct visa. Common categories include:
| Visa Category | Examples |
|---|---|
| Visitor | Tourist visa (subclass 600), eVisitor (651), Electronic Travel Authority (601) |
| Student | Student visa (subclass 500) |
| Work | Temporary Skill Shortage (482), Working Holiday (417/462) |
| Family | Partner visa (309/100), Child visa (101), Parent visa (103/143) |
| Permanent Residence | Skilled Independent (189), Employer Sponsored (186) |
The Department of Home Affairs website includes a Visa Finder tool to help identify the most appropriate visa based on your purpose and circumstances.
Lodging a Visa Application
Step 1: Log in and Start a New Application
After logging into ImmiAccount, click New application and select the relevant visa subclass from the list provided.
Step 2: Complete the Application Form
Fill in all required fields, including personal information, travel history, health and character declarations, and any sponsor or nominator details if applicable. Save your progress regularly — ImmiAccount allows you to save and return to incomplete applications.
Step 3: Upload Supporting Documents
Each visa type has its own document checklist. Commonly required documents include a valid passport, passport-size photographs, evidence of finances, health insurance, and relationship or employment evidence. Upload clear, legible scans in the accepted formats (PDF, JPEG, or PNG).
Step 4: Pay the Visa Application Charge (VAC)
Most visas attract a fee, paid securely online via credit or debit card within ImmiAccount. The fee is not generally refundable if an application is refused.
Step 5: Submit and Track
After submission, your application will appear in your ImmiAccount dashboard with a Transaction Reference Number (TRN). Use this to track processing progress and respond to any correspondence from the Department.
Important Tips
